Arturo Sanchez Martinez

Dr. Arturo Martinez, age 69, passed away on December 4th, 2022, peacefully in his sleep.
Born on December 2, 1953, in San Antonio, Texas to parents Benito and Anita Martinez. As a teenager, Arturo traveled to Wisconsin where he attended and graduated High School at Horlick High in Racine, Wisconsin. Arturo went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a master’s degree in Adult Education. In 2007, he accomplished his lifelong dream and received his PhD in Adult Education. Dr. Martinez lived his life serving the Latino Community in many ways, mainly focusing on creating educational opportunities. He created a Spanish Dental program that spread through the community and helped link many with Milwaukee Workforce Agencies. During his illustrious professional career, he held multiple titles. He was the Director of the MATC Campus Adult Basic Education, Bilingual, GED/HSED, and IET Programs and culminated his professional career as the Executive Director for the Department of Economic and Workforce Development - College of Southern Nevada (CSN) in Las Vegas.
In his short tenure at the College of Southern Nevada, Dr. Martinez emerged as a loved and respected institutional leader. He positioned CSN as a national leader in workforce innovation. He introduced integrated education models that allowed GED students to concurrently enroll in college courses and enter high demand degree higher education pathways. He helped to grow enrollments in his department to over 10,000 students, one of the largest integrated education enrollments in the country. In recognition of this work, Dr. Martinez was invited to present on the CSN-Integrated Education AtB Model (Ability to Benefit), at the prestigious American Association of Community College-Workforce Institute in January of 2023.
He received several outstanding national and local recognitions such as the United Migrant Opportunity Services (UMOS) 2015 Hispanic Man of the Year Award, the National LULAC 2015 State Director of the Year Award, and the TransCenter for Youth 2018 "Bridges to Opportunities Award." His community involvement includes serving on the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), Counsel 333 National Board, the Milwaukee Co-Op Center, and board member of Forward Latino. He was instrumental in forming the LULAC Brewers' Scholarship Award in collaboration with the Hispanic team players to provide scholarships to Hispanic students to attend MATC.
Dr. Martinez was a lifelong fan of the Milwaukee Brewers and the Green Bay Packers. In 1982, he even had a chance to see the Brewers vs Cardinals in the World Series.
Dr. Martinez gave decades of service to the Wisconsin Hispanic Scholarship Foundation/ Mexican Fiesta where he served as Secretary & Entertainment Coordinator. He continued his lifework of creating education opportunities to Hispanic students while also advocating to keep Tejano Music alive by volunteering his time to help coordinate one the biggest Mexican Culture and Music festivals in the Midwest. Dr. Martinez opened the pathways to new and old Tejano Artists in the Tejano Music Industry. He was viewed as a great leader, friend, role model, and musical advocate. He will be deeply missed by so many.
Dr. Martinez is survived by four siblings, his brothers George, Simon, and his sisters Anita and Yolanda.
Married on September 26, 1981, Dr. Martinez was a beloved husband of 41 years to his wife, Maria E. Martinez.
Beloved Father to his four children, Elena, Arturo Jr (Kelly), Salena and Alexis Martinez, Beloved Grandfather to his 10 grandchildren, Julia, Raphael, Elizabeth, Leticia, Carlos, Isabel, Lola Marie, Eli, Veyda, and Andrew Jr; and
Beloved Great-grandfather to 7 great-grandchildren, Royce, Marisol, Romeo, Abel, Camila, Raul, and Elyana.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 11, from 10:00 AM to 1:45 PM at CHURCH AND CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 15250 W National Ave., New Berlin. Funeral services to follow at 2:00 PM. Rogelio “Rocky” Ynocencio, age 57, of St. Charles passed away Friday, October 1st, 2021 at Delnor Hospital in Geneva, Illinois.

Benito O. Chapa, Sr. age 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at The Grove Fox Valley in Aurora, IL. He was born February 15, 1936 in Odem, Tx. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Mary Lou (Olivarez) Chapa; his children: Fernando Chapa (Diana Secor), Erlinda Chapa LaVia (Vernon J LaVia). His grandchildren: Christopher Gorski (Mikala Auclair, Fiancé); Lauryn Aydoner (Adem Aydoner), Veronica LaVia, Adalee Chapa, Fernando M. Chapa, Jackie LaVia, and great-grandchildren Ahmed and Adem Aydoner, and by his sisters in Texas, Leonor Garcia, Mary Cruz Corona, Eva Garcia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Benito was a hardworking, loving, and caring man who cherished his entire family dearly. He was employed by Barber Greene and then retired from Caterpillar. Benito built and owned the first Hispanic Banquet Hall in Aurora, The Alamo, and received the "Hispanic Pioneers" award from the City of Aurora for his accomplishments.
He was a member of St. Joseph & St. Mary parish. He loved his Chicago Bears. And, Benito was one of the founding members of the Latin American Club in Aurora, where he fostered lifelong relationships with Mike Garcia and Alejandro Benavides and many other dear friends. Benito never missed attending a musical or sporting event for his grandchildren, bringing them a beverage every time. He always enjoyed a phone call from his loved ones. Although it wasn't a long call, hearing their voices meant the world to him.
He is preceded in death by his parents Jesus and Cruz Chapa, his daughter Esmeralda Chapa Gorski, and his son Benito Chapa, Jr. Our family greatly appreciates The Grove Fox Valley and Advocate Hospice for the love and caring shared with Benito in his final weeks. Mass will be held at St. Mary's Church, 430 E. Downer Place, Aurora, Illinois on Thursday September 23rd at 10 am. After mass, a private interment will be held for family at his children's resting place (Benito Jr. and Esmerelda), Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. He will be buried with his son, Benito Chapa Jr.

David Barbosa, Sr. 61 of Aurora, Illinois passed away on July 28, 2020. He was born on November 15, 1958 in McAllen, Tx to Bonifacio and Guadalupe Barbosa. David was known by many and loved by all. If you met him once you never forgot him. His smile and pride of being a Tejano was as big as his Texas heart. If you didn't run into him having breakfast or lunch at his favorite restaurant Teca you would run into him at the roulette table at the casino. David’s prides and joys were his family. David’s hunger for success was evident when he enrolled at DeVry University and graduation with a technical degree in 1989. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to create DeTech Incorporated, a security company. His work ethic proved to be the backbone of his company. A proud owner and businessman David provided for his family until his very last days. David is survived by his loving wife Rachel Barbosa; his children Sarah A. Barbosa, David Barbosa Jr., Marisa Pedroza, Annabelle Rubio and his son-in-law Jose Rubio; his grandchildren, Anthony, Damian, Sergio, Elijah, Jacob, Nathan, Larissa, Mariah, Jalissa, Clarissa, Alinah, Aliana and Alyssa; his sibling's Bonifacio, Arturo, Raul and Danny Barbosa and Yolanda Barbosa Bermudez and Liliana Barbosa.
